Jane Ellis
I am a Certified French to English translator, freelance writer, sub-editor and proofreader. I love words, as I’m sure you can tell! I also blog about my adopted country of Panama, at Panamajama.com.
I am a Member of the International Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters (IAPTI), American Translators Association (ATA) and Associate Member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI).
My original background is in Chemistry, with a B.Sc (Hons) coupled with extensive experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry, including eight years at Merck. I have since studied French, gaining DELF B1 and B2 Diplomas in French Studies followed by a Professional Certificate in Translation.
Experience – What Do I Do Right Now?
I do freelance translation work, often via agencies, mainly in my specialist topics of Chemistry, Manufacturing and Journalism. I also have significant experience translating and sub-editing breaking news articles gained through my work for world-renowned citizen journalism website Global Voices.
I write articles about Panama and provide accompanying photographs as a freelance writer for travel website MondoExplorer.com. I gained this position, in part, due to the quality of my blog about Panama, which I started almost immediately after moving here three years ago. I also write articles about culture in Panama for renowned travel/culture website The Culture Trip.
I proofread ebooks in English and French for Project Gutenberg.
Prior Experience from a Solid Foundation of Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals
I have extensive experience writing technical documents such as SOPs, Installation/Operation Qualifications and Validation Qualifications, with particular knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry gleaned from my eight years at Merck.
Five and a half years in Quality Operations positions followed by two and half years as a Process Improvement Engineer in Operations/Production have given me a thorough knowledge of producing these and many other types of document to the stringent requirements of both the FDA and MHRA.
Due to my degree in Chemistry, during which I studied Astronomy for one year and Mathematics for two, I can apply this knowledge to the Chemical and Cosmetics industries, as well as to any documents of a Scientific or Technical nature.
I Would Love to Hear from You!
Please get in touch using my email below or connect with me on my LinkedIn profile where you will find recommendations of my abilities from satisfied clients. I am looking forward to working with you on your translation, writing, sub-editing or proof-reading projects!
